What's the buzz?

Visitors Bureau CEO job still vacant

The first choice for a new chief executive officer at the Greater Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau has turned down the job.

Ron Melton, executive vice president and chief financial officer of the bureau in Dallas, chose to remain there instead of taking the Cincinnati job, which has been open since Mike Wilson resigned last September.

Chuck Curran, the Comair executive serving as interim CEO, is scheduled to leave at the end of March. But that date is flexible, bureau chairman Eric Kearney said.

Mr. Melton said he turned down the offer not because of the boycott or race-relations problems in Cincinnati — or because of the small size of the downtown convention center.

He cited personal reasons for the decision.

“In fact, they did a wonderful job showing me the city,” he said.

Mr. Kearney said the search would continue.

“We're actively pursuing people who are interested in the position,” he said.
