RedHawks even score with Ohio
Miami's Davis provides spark

OXFORD Miami easily defeated in-state rival Ohio Monday 79-55 in the teams' 164th meeting. The difference for Miami between Monday night's win and an earlier 85-61 loss? Intensity.
Doug Davis, who didn't start because of an injured right ankle, came off the bench and ignited the RedHawks with 15 points in the first half, as Miami held a five-point lead.
Davis didn't let up in the second half, finishing with a career-high 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting after coach Charlie Coles didn't even think he was going to play.
Davis' previous high 23 points came last season at Ohio. Davis hit eight of his 11 shots, four from behind the arc, and played 33 minutes.
Eugene Seals, normally Miami's defensive ace, gave Miami an offensive spark with a career high 15 points while effectively slowing down Ohio's leading scorer, Withrow graduate Brandon Hunter.
Hunter was held to 12 points, seven under his average.
I knew I couldn't out muscle him, said Seals, who gives up 60 pounds to Hunter. I tried to use my quickness and athleticism. I knew I would have to work harder to stop him.
It worked as Seals continually moved around Ohio's big man and knocked the ball away as OU attempted to feed the post. As a team, Miami forced 20 turnovers.
As Seals left the court with 2:10 remaining, the crowd of 5,032 rose to its feet to show appreciation for the sophomore's effort.
With the win, Miami (11-12, 8-4) moved into sole possession of second place in the Mid-American Conference East Division, half a game ahead of Ohio (13-8, 8-5).
We consistently didn't come with energy tonight, said Hunter, who was coming off a 30-point afternoon against Ball State Saturday. Miami came out with more energy, and usually in college basketball that is the team that will win.
Ohio coach Tim O'Shea agreed with his star, saying he was embarrassed by his team's effort. Ohio now leads the all-time series 85-79.
