Isles duel Panthers to draw

Boston blows out Columbus

By The Associated Press

SUNRISE, Fla. — Dick Tarnstrom scored the tying goal with 4:16 left in regulation Monday night as the New York Islanders salvaged a 6-6 draw with the Florida Panthers after squandering a three-goal lead in the third period.

New York led 5-2 heading into the third, but the Panthers scored four times in a 7:13 span. Florida took the lead with 12:14 left in regulation on Robert Svehla's second goal of the game.

Alexei Yashin and Kenny Jonsson each had a goal and two assists for the Islanders.

Niklas Hagman, who had two goals and an assist, started Florida's comeback 33 seconds into the third period.

        Bruins 8, Blue Jackets 0

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Bill Guerin had three goals and an assist and John Grahame made 30 saves for his first shutout of the season as Boston beat Columbus.

It was the most lopsided loss in the Blue Jackets' two seasons. The Bruins scored their season-high in goals against a team they had never beaten.

All the goals were even-strength, with the Bruins on the power play for only one second of the game.

        Senators 4, Lightning 4

TAMPA, Fla. — Daniel Alfredsson scored two goals, including the equalizer with 40.7 seconds left in regulation, as Ottawa tied Tampa Bay.

The Senators are unbeaten in five games (2-0-3).

Tampa Bay took a 4-3 lead after Pavel Kubina and Brad Richards scored two minutes apart late in the third period.

Jani Hurme is 6-0-1 against Tampa Bay.

The Senators, who also had goals from Magnus Arvedson and Karel Rachunek, are 7-0-1 in the last eight meetings with the Lightning.

Vincent Lecavalier and Vaclav Prospal had Tampa Bay goals.

        Red Wings 3, Avalanche 1

DENVER — Darren McCarty and Kirk Maltby scored second-period goals, and Dominik Hasek preserved the lead by stopping 13 shots in the third period as Detroit beat Colorado.

Nicklas Lidstrom scored into an empty net with two seconds left as the Red Wings raised their NHL-best point total to 82.

Scott Parker had the lone goal for Colorado.

Hasek finished with 23 saves, and Patrick Roy had 31.

Colorado had its best period in the third, outshooting the Red Wings 13-2. But the Avalanche couldn't solve Hasek.

        Flyers 3, Kings 1

LOS ANGELES — Eric Weinrich ended a 43-game goal-scoring drought and set up Ruslan Fedotenko's short-handed goal as Philadelphia beat Los Angeles.

Adam Deadmarsh scored a power-play goal for the Kings.

Simon Gagne added an unassisted goal with 1:03 remaining, helping the Eastern Conference-leading Flyers improve to 32-14-6-2. They lead the NHL with a 17-8-3 road mark.

Philadelphia is 11-3-1 in 15 games despite going 1-for-26 on the power play the last nine contests.

Roman Cechmanek made 20 saves in the victory.

        Canucks 4, Coyotes 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Jan Hlavac and Trevor Linden each had a goal and an assist as Vancouver extended its unbeaten streak to eight games.

Trevor Letowski and Markus Naslund also scored, and Peter Skudra made 22 saves for the Canucks, 7-0-1 over their last eight games and 13-3-1-1 since Christmas.

Vancouver moved into seventh place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Los Angeles and three up on the 10th-place Coyotes.

Daniel Briere and Andrei Nazarov scored for the Coyotes, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
