Road remains unkind to Miami

1-8 away from home after loss at BG

The Associated Press

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Miami RedHawks were on the verge of an upset of Bowling Green Saturday afternoon. But in the end, their road woes rose up and got 'em.

Miami couldn't hold leads in the final four minutes, including its last with 1:35 remaining, and fell to BG 64-61 in a Mid-American Conference game.

The loss drops Miami to 1-8 on the road this season and was also its sixth consecutive loss in Anderson Arena. The RedHawks fall to 8-12 overall and 5-4 in the MAC.

Bowling Green, which had a 12-game winning streak earlier this season, improved to 16-4 (6-3).

Miami held a 55-52 lead with 3:58 left, but BG's Keith McLeod hit a 3-pointer and then followed it with another at the 2:59 mark to put the Falcons ahead.

Alex Shorts, who scored 12 points for the RedHawks, made four free throws to give Miami a 59-58 lead with 1:35 remaining.

But McLeod was fouled with 1:21 left and hit both shots. Teammate Len Matela added two more free throws with 12 seconds left to expand the lead to 62-59.

After Miami's Doug Davis, who had 10 points, scored for Miami to cut the lead to one, McLeod was fouled with 3 seconds remaining and hit both shots.

McLeod scored 19 points, including 10 of Bowling Green's final 12.

Eugene Seals also scored 12 points and Juby Johnson and Danny Horace (Western Hills High) each had 10 for Miami.

The Falcons were 18-of-25 at the line to Miami's 11-of-13.

Miami plays at Buffalo Wednesday (7 p.m.).
