Request for Parole wins Frog Stakes

Favorite wins 3-year-old debut

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Odds-on favorite Request for Parole, who ran behind top juveniles Siphonic, Repent and Harlan's Holiday last year, won his 3-year-old debut Saturday at Turfway Park. The Judge TC colt won the $50,000 WEBN Frog Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths from Turfway Prevue winner Perfect Drift. Pacesetter Thunder On Land, stablemate of the winner, was third.

“I'm pleased with how he ran,” winning trainer Steve Margolis said. “I was a little worried going into the first turn because he was too eager to run, but (jockey) Brian (Peck) did a great job of getting him to lay off my other horse (Thunder On Land). He's been training so good coming into this race. I was confident in him, but you're always anxious until they actually race. We'll just work up to the Battaglia now.”

The $100,000 John Battaglia Memorial on March2 is the final local prep for the Grade II $500,000 Lane's End Spiral Stakes on March 23 at Turfway.

Said Peck: “I was a little worried when (Perfect Drift) came running up the inside; he actually pulled in front, but my horse found another gear.”

Request for Parole improved his record to 3-3-1 in eight starts, with earnings of $229,912. He won the Ellis Park Juvenile and finished second in the River Downs Cradle Stakes and Churchill Downs Iroquois and Kentucky Club Jockey Club Stakes, and fifth in Keeneland's Breeders' Futurity.
