NORMAN, Okla. — Ebi Ere scored 19 points and Aaron McGhee had 12 of his 16 in the second half to lead No.22 Oklahoma to a 72-56 victory over No.2 Maryland on Friday night.

McGhee scored five points in a 10-0 run that gave the Sooners (9-1) a 62-49 lead and Maryland (8-2) got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way. The Terrapins, playing for the first time in 10 days, shot just 38 percent and committed a season-high 21 turnovers.

“This is a great feeling,” said Jabahri Brown, a transfer from Florida International who had 14 rebounds. “This is why I came to Oklahoma, to be in situations like this.”

Juan Dixon scored nine points in the first half but added only one basket in the second and finished with 11 points, seven below his season average. Chris Wilcox led Maryland with 15 points.

Jabahri Brown had 14 rebounds and McGhee added 11, helping the Sooners outrebound Maryland 44-36, including a 26-14 advantage in the second half.

The game was tied at 38 when McGhee made a free throw and made a follow shot to start an 8-3 run that gave the Sooners the lead for good, 46-41. Maryland turned the ball over five times during that stretch and missed four of five shots.

The Terps got within 52-49 when Byron Mouton came up with a steal and a layup with 7:17 left, but Maryland didn't make another field goal for six minutes.

Meanwhile Quannas White hit a short jumper, McGhee had a three-point play and two free throws, and Ere hit a 3-pointer from the left corner to cap the 10-0 spurt and make the final four minutes incidental.

Hollis Price, Oklahoma's leading scorer at 18.4 points per game, scored six and didn't make a basket until the 2:46 mark of the first half. But Oklahoma held its own without him, thanks to eight points from Brown and seven from reserve Daryan Selvy.

Brown, a transfer from Florida International who became eligible Dec. 15, scored all three Oklahoma baskets in a 6-1 run that gave the Sooners a 27-26 lead. The last of those was a powerful dunk that brought the biggest roar of the half from the sellout crowd of 12,715.
