Women: NKU 88, Ala.-Huntsville 52

Cottrell closes on all-time scoring record

Enquirer news services

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Michelle Cottrell scored 20 points as NKU won in the first round of the Community Recorder Classic in Regents Hall. Cottrell, a graduate of Boone County High School, now has 1,871 career points. She needs just 13 points tonight against Delta State University to become NKU's all-time scoring leader.

Peggy Vincent scored 1,883 points from 1975-79 and is the Norse's current all-time career leader.

Connie Myers added 16 points and nine rebounds for NKU, which is unbeaten (8-0) and ranked No.1 in the nation in the NCAA Division II poll. Kristin Polosky scored 15 points for the Norse, who made 10 of 16 3-point attempts.

NKU will meet Delta State — a 94-59 winner over Florida Southern in the other first-round contest Thursday — tonight at 7:45p.m. today in the championship game.

Clint Adkins led the way with 17 points, followed by Chris Washington with 12 and Jarett Young with 11.

The Lions' shooting cooled to 32.1 percent after halftime, which helped Capital (8-3) get back in the game.

Adam Stolly and Chuck Bihn each scored 15 points for Capital, and Tony Ruberg added 10.
