NHL roundup: Six players ejected in wild brawl


248 penalty minutes in all

        OTTAWA — Lubomir Visnovsky broke a tie with 5:15 remaining as Los Angeles beat Ottawa in a game that featured a wild second-period brawl.

        Jaroslav Modry, Steve Heinze and Adam Deadmarsh also scored to help the Kings extend their winning streak to five games and their unbeaten string to seven at 6-0-1.

        Mike Fisher and Ricard Persson scored for the Senators.

        Ottawa goalie Jani Hurme and Los Angeles counterpart Felix Potvin were ejected along with four other players for their roles in the melee that resulted in 174 penalty minutes.

        Kings forward Adam Mair will be facing at least a 10-game suspension for leaving the bench to join the brawl. He received 47 penalty minutes, including three game misconducts. In total, 248 penalty minutes were handed out in the game, an Ottawa record.

        Flyers 2, Stars 1

        PHILADELPHIA — Keith Primeau scored the game-winner midway through the second period, and Brian Boucher made 29 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Thursday night.

        Marty Murray also scored for Philadelphia.

        Martin Rucinsky tallied a power-play goal for Dallas.

        Bruins 5, Canadiens 0

        BOSTON — Byron Dafoe recorded his 24th career shutout as Boston snapped a three-game losing streak and beat Montreal.

        Brian Rolston, Andy Hilbert and Rob Zamuner scored in a 52-second span during the first 6:17 of the game.

        It as Hilbert's first NHL game and Zamuner added his second goal of the game late in the second period.

        Dafoe made 23 saves.

        Bill Guerin also scored.

        Devils 3, Oilers 3

        EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Mike Comrie stole the puck deep in the Devils' end and scored unassisted with 1:36 to play to give Edmonton the tie with New Jersey.

        Josh Green and Ethan Moreau also scored for the Oilers, who rallied twice in the third period from one-goal deficits.

        Randy McKay, who had not scored in 20 games, tallied twice for New Jersey, while Bobby Holik got the other goal in a game the Devils outshot the Oilers 33-15.

        Predators 6, Canucks 2

        NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kimmo Timonen and Cliff Ronning each scored a power-play goal and had three assists to lead Nashville past Vancouver.

        The four points by Timonen and Ronning tied a franchise record. The victory extended the Predators' home unbeaten streak to 10 games.

        Greg Classen, Denis Arkhipov, Scott Hartnell and Bubba Berenzweig also scored for the Predators.

        Henrik Sedin and Jan Hlavac had Vancouver's goals.
