MUNCIE, Ind. — Rylan Hainje had 23 points and nine rebounds, and Thomas Jackson added 14 points as Butler upset No.21 Ball State 75-66 Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs, one of only eight undefeated teams entering the night, are 11-0 for the first time in 110 years of basketball. And Butler did it by beating the Cardinals at their own game — perimeter shooting.

Ball State (6-3), which got 27 points from Theron Smith, came into the game No.1 in the nation in 3-pointers per game and No.2 in 3-point shooting percentage. But it struggled against the Bulldogs, making just five of 13 3-pointers.

Butler, meanwhile, hit 12 of 26 3-pointers and led for the final 32 minutes.

The Cardinals took control late in the first half with a 10-2 run, which forced Ball State coach Tim Buckley to pull all five of his players because of their poor play.

But the Bulldogs struggled to maintain the lead through much of the second half.

        No.17 Michigan St. 78, Oakland 50

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Marcus Taylor had 17 points and four assists as MSU extended the nation's longest home winning streak to 51 games.

The Spartans (8-3) scored the first eight points against the Golden Grizzlies (5-7) and turned the game into a rout with an 11-0 run to open the second half.

Michigan State reserve Chris Hill scored 12 points, Kelvin Torbert had 12 points and four assists, and Adam Wolfe added 10 points.

Reserve Brad Buddenborg led Oakland with 14 points.

The Golden Grizzlies might have been in trouble before the intrastate game even started.
