Bellisari back as OSU captain
Still not known if he'll play QB in Outback Bowl
The Associated Press
COLUMBUS Ohio State quarterback Steve Bellisari has been reinstated as a team captain after having been stripped of that role following his arrest last month on drunken-driving charges.
Bellisari was introduced as a captain Monday at the team's first meeting with reporters since the Buckeyes learned they would be playing South Carolina on Jan.1 at the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla.
Bellisari was arrested Nov.16 and suspended for the game against Illinois two days later. He was on the sidelines for the Nov.25 game at Michigan but didn't play; backup Craig Krenzel led the team to a 26-20 victory.
Bellisari, who pleaded no contest, still has a three-day jail term to serve starting Jan.11 and must take part in a three-day alcohol awareness program.
It's not known whether Bellisari will play at quarterback in the bowl game. He first made a name for himself on the Buckeyes' kickoff coverage team as a freshman in 1998 and has been used at a variety of roles in practice.
It's kind of "Hey, Steve, come over here and do this,' he said. And I say, "All right' and there I go. That's it.
I've played a little defense. I've played quarterback. I've played receiver. They sent me in at tailback. I've returned some kicks, he said.
I'm not really in the position to like it or dislike it, he said. I'm still going to go out there and have fun either way, like I have always.
