Caps 6, Hurricanes 2, at Washington Peter Bondra scored twice, establishing a new franchise record for goals scored. The Capitals ended a three-game winless streak by peppering goaltender Arturs Irbe for four goals on their first 10 shots.
Red Wings 4, Devils 2, at Detroit Manny Legace stopped 36 shots for his seventh win without a loss this season. Detroit is unbeaten in its last nine (8-0-1) and improved to 22-3-1-1 overall, best in the NHL. Legace ran his personal unbeaten streak to 19 games (17-0-2) over the last two years.
Leafs 2, Blackhawks 1, at Chicago Alexander Mogilny and Mats Sundin scored and Curtis Joseph blocked 18 shots to hand Chicago its first home loss.
Avs 5, Canucks 2, at Vancouver Milan Hejduk scored twice and Patrick Roy stopped 31 shots. Colorado moved two points ahead of the Canucks and into the top eight in the Western Conference for the first time this season.
