TORONTO Mats Sundin scored twice as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Florida Panthers, who lost high-scoring forward Pavel Bure in a 5-1 defeat Monday night. Bure left the game with broken teeth and a headache after being checked late in the first period. Bure was checked sideways into the boards by Toronto's Darcy Tucker, whose clean hit was not penalized. The Panthers got revenge on Tucker both in the second and third periods. Florida's Brad Ference pummeled Tucker during a fight in the second, and Jason Wiemer elbowed him with the butt end of his stick in the third.
Tucker lay motionless on the ice for five minutes before being helped off. Wiemer received a five-minute penalty for elbowing and a game misconduct.
The game also featured two third-period fights by Toronto's Tie Domi, including a violent mix-up with Florida tough guy Peter Worrell.
Domi, Bryan McCabe, and Robert Reichel also scored for the Leafs, who outshot Florida 45-18.
Islanders 3, Stars 2, at Dallas Alexei Yashin scored two first-period power play goals as New York ended a season-worst five-game winless stretch. Yashin got his 11th and 12th goals of the season in the game's opening 14:25 to help the Islanders get back on track from an 0-4-1 slump.
Hurricanes 5, Blue Jackets 2, at Raleigh, N.C. Jeff O'Neill and Glen Wesley scored in the opening 5:19, and the Carolina Hurricanes extended their home unbeaten streak to six games.
Former Cincinnati Cyclone Erik Cole snapped a 12-game pointless streak with his assist for Carolina.
Thrashers 3, Sabres 2, at Atlanta Tony Hrkac scored for Atlanta just 16 seconds after Buffalo's Tim Connolly converted a penalty shot, and the Thrashers snapped a 10-game winless streak.
