Officer charged in Cleveland road rage case
The Associated Press
CLEVELAND A city police SWAT officer accused of shooting out a car window on the highway during an apparent road rage incident was charged with felonious assault.
A Cuyahoga County grand jury Thursday indicted patrolman Geoffrey Stevens, 36, an eight-year veteran of the force. He is accused of shooting out the rear window of a car that had cut in front of him on Interstate 77 in Cleveland on Aug. 28.
The other driver, Cleveland East Tech High School football coach Gerald Stueber, said he was driving home to Chagrin Falls from football practice when the incident happened.
Mr. Stueber said that when he merged onto I-77 from Interstate 490 in Cleveland, he thought the lane was clear. Mr. Stueber said Mr. Stevens rolled down his window and yelled at him before firing the shot.
