Honors recognize charitable giving

Leave a Legacy honored Greater Cincinnatians at the annual Voices of Giving Honors event for those who left legacies to charitable organizations. The 2001 honorees are:

Rob Allen (deceased), of Walnut Hills, nominated by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He created two Charitable Remainder Trusts benefiting the orchestra.

Anna and Gordon Braam, of Springdale, nominated by Clovernook Center for the Blind. They are volunteers who established a Charitable Remainder Trust for the center.

Edward F. Donohoe (deceased), nominated by Elder High School. He was an Elder graduate in the 1920s who created a Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust to provide tuition assistance to students in need.

Jim Howland and Lois Madden, of New Richmond, nominated by the Cincinnati Arts Association. They set up a Charitable Remainder Trust benefiting the association to give back to the community where they built their lives.

Margaret Jane Hubert (deceased), of Clifton, nominated by Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary. She left her extensive library of theological books to the school, as well as her financial assests to maintain and build the collection.

Jacqueline Kloenne (deceased), of Bellevue, nominated by FreeStore/FoodBank. She endowed the organization with a Charitable Remainder Trust as part of her lifelong commitment to help the less-fortunate.

Martha Martin, of Mount Washington, nominated by the Presbyterian Church Foundation. She set up Charitable Gift Annuities to further the mission of her congregation and the Presbyterian Women's Organizations.

Charles (deceased) and Claire Phillips, of Hyde Park, nominated by the College of Mount St. Joseph. For more than 20 years they supported scholarships, facilities and student services, including an Estate Gift to ensure continuing support and create learning initiatives.

Charles and Philomina Miller, of Greenhills, nominated by Maple Knoll Village. Volunteers at the retirement community for more than 20 years, they executed a Charitable Remainder Trust to help the organization.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller were also presented with the Distinguished Recognition Award as the honorees that best personify the spirit of the Leave a Legacy initiative. Maple Knoll Village received a $1,000 gift in the Millers' name.

Congrats runs daily. Call: 755-4164. Fax: 755-4150. Mail: Congrats, The Cincinnati Enquirer, 7700 Service Center Drive, West Chester, OH 45069.
