City wants to clarify role for Blue Ash Airport

        As Cincinnati city officials try to figure out how to best use Lunken Airport, they are doing the same with Blue Ash Airport.

        The one-runway facility in the northern suburb is owned by Cincinnati. An attempt to sell it to Blue Ash stalled in July when the suburban government offered about $20 million, which Cincinnati officials thought was about $10 million too low.

        Blue Ash is used primarily for general aviation, although some smaller business and charter jets land there.

        City transportation director John Deatrick, who oversees both Blue Ash and Lunken airports, said he is asking that the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments review its master air transportation plan that includes Blue Ash.

        “We need to clarify its role, and to remove any redundancy with other facilities,” Mr. Dea trick said. “Right now, it is self-sufficient, but we want to see what our options are.

        “We know we have a valuable asset, and we want to know if we need to keep it as it is and develop around it, or sell it, or close it and sell it as prime property.”
