West End shooting sends two to hospital
Two men were shot at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Ezzard Charles Apartments on Clark Street in the West End.
Sgt. Ken Wells of the Cincinnati Police Division said one of the men was shot in the head and the other was shot in the lower leg. Both were taken to University Hospital.
REGGAE RUN: Melissa Miniard, 7, of Cheviot waves from the top of a fire engine as runners go by at the start of the Reggae Run at Ault Park Saturday. The run, which got under way with a shot from a starter's pistol fired by Melissa, benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation. After the race, Melissa, who is in remission from cancer, got her wish a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. The race is run in memory of Maria Olberding, who was slain in Hyde Park in 1994 while jogging.

John Collins, 52, of Ezzard Charles Apartments, said his cousin was shot in the head. He identified him as Barry Woods, 40, of Mount Healthy.
Police officer hurt when vehicle is hit
A Cincinnati police officer was in good condition Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital after a car crash.
Milton Hampton was in a stopped vehicle near a construction site on northbound Interstate 75 near the Hopple Street exit when a vehicle driven by Michael Barksdale, 33, of North College Hill crashed into him at about 5:20 a.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Bill Coombs of the Police Division.
Mr. Barksdale, who was not injured, was arrested on DUI charges.
Hamilton man sets himself on fire
HAMILTON A Hamilton man barricaded himself in his garage Saturday morning, poured gasoline on his clothes and set himself on fire.
Police were called to the home of James Allen Jr., 37, in the 900 block of Harmon Avenue shortly before noon. Mr. Allen rushed to the garage, set himself on fire and then ran outside. Firefighters extinguished the burns to his hands, head and upper parts of his body.
He was taken by helicopter to University Hospital, where he is in serious condition.
Police said Mr. Allen was apparently upset because of his mother's recent death.
Amelia man killed in crash on I-275
UNION TOWNSHIP, Clermont County A 48-year-old Amelia man was killed Friday when his car left the roadway on Interstate 275 and crashed into several trees before overturning.
State Highway Patrol said Richard Winkelbach was alone at 4:43 p.m. and driving south when the accident occurred between Routes 125 and 32.
Mr. Winkelbach, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is under investigation.
Loveland woman will carry Olympic flame
A Loveland woman will be one of the torch-bearers who will carry the Olympic flame through the region on its way to the 2002 winter games in Salt Lake City.
Jane Alynn Chezem will carry the torch as it makes its way between Portsmouth, Ohio, and Huntington, W.Va.
The list, which is still growing, comes from nominations sent to the relay's sponsors.
The torch is scheduled to come through Cincinnati and Covington on Dec. 17 or 18 during its 65-day, 13,500-mile journey through 46 states.
