Week of benefits build up to big theater's opening

        The new AMC 20-screen multiplex at Newport on the Levee officially opens next Friday. But the facility will be hopping this week with advance festivities:

        • Saturday - VIP gala benefit for the Buenger Boys & Girls Clubs, with live music, free popcorn, drinks and restaurant samples, plus a choice of 10 films, including surprise previews of upcoming features. Tickets: $10. (513) 421-8909.

        • Sunday — The Cincinnati Enquirer free movie day, with a selection of summer films. Proceeds from sale of $2 popcorn-drink combos will benefit Newspapers in Education. All day, beginning at 11:30 a.m. See newspaper for coupons required for admission.

        • Monday — WVMX-FM and WKFS-FM promotion, “Movies for Women who Like Movies Night,” doors open at 7 p.m., $2 concession combo sales benefit American Red Cross Disaster Fund.

        • Tuesday — WEBN-FM and WOXF-FM promotion, “Movies for Men who Like Movies Night,” doors open at 7 p.m., $2 concession combo sales benefit American Red Cross Disaster Fund.

        • Wednesday — Student Night, choice of 19 summer movies, beginning at 7 p.m. Free admission for students with coupon from campus newspapers and City Beat.
