Despite win, OSU hardly ecstatic
Enquirer news services
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Freshman tailback Lydell Ross was very happy. Senior quarterback Steve Bellisari was relatively happy. But Ohio State coach Jim Tressel seemed to find almost as many things wrong with the 27-14 win Saturday at Indiana as he did with the previous week's loss at UCLA. The Buckeyes improved to 2-1, 1-0 in the Big Ten, going into next Saturday's night's home game against undefeated Northwestern.
I (wish) we wouldn't have given up that long home run pass, Tressel said. You take that away, we shut "em down. Our first drive, we needed to finish in the end zone. Then when we were on the 1-yard line and didn't get in; we can't do that. Perhaps more distressing was the ineptitude of the Buckeyes offense on two other series that resulted in 20-yard field goals by freshman Josh Huston.
Payback games
No. 2 Florida 52, Mississippi State 0: Gators clearly don't forget. Last year, the Bulldogs won in Starkville, 47-35 and piled up 351 yards rushing.
No. 13 South Carolina 37, Alabama 36: In beating the Crimson Tide for the first time after 10 losses, the Gamecocks scored nearly as many points Saturday as they did in all the defeats. Entering the game, the Tide had outscored South Carolina 286-50.
No. 6 Tennessee 26, No. 18 LSU 18: A year later, the Vols avenged a bitter 38-31 OT loss at Baton Rouge.
