3 area men qualify for PGA Club Pro

Cincinnatians Scott Burnett and Dennis Wells and Stan Bickel of Fort Thomas, Ky., finished in the top 34 and ties at the Northern PGA CPC Sunday to qualify for the 35th PGA Club Professional Championship next June at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.
Scott Porter of Lexington, Ky., shot a 6-under-par 66 to win with a 72-hole 273 total, two strokes better than Mike Small of Champaign, Ill., at the Northern CPC at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana, Ill. Porter, who was runner-up at this year's Kentucky Open, earned $20,000 first prize from a $150,000 purse.
Burnett (282) tied for eighth and earned $4,750; Wells (283) tied for 10th and earned $3,750 and Bickel tied for 27th and earned $1,162.50.
The Northern CPC is one of four regionals conducted in the fall that help determine the field for the 2002 PGA Club Professional Club Championship.
