Breast cancer benefit walk registration open
By Peggy O'Farrell
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Registration is open for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer benefit walk.
More than 14,000 participants are expected for the 5-mile walk on Oct. 28. This is the fifth year for the American Cancer Society event, says Jennifer Scales, event coordinator.
They had about 11,000 participants last year, and we're hoping to increase it a little this year, Ms. Scales says.
Among the programs supported by the Making Strides walk:
Mammography Project/BEST Project, which provides mammograms to low-income and uninsured women.
Tell-A-Friend, in which volunteers call friends and loved ones and encourage them to get mammograms.
Reach to Recovery, in which breast cancer survivors offer one-on-one support to women who are currently fighting the disease.
Look Good, Feel Better, in which cosmetologists teach patients how to enhance their appearance while they're undergoing cancer treatment.
To register, call 891-1600 or go the American Cancer Society's Web site, www.cancer.org.
