Four charged in school vandalism
MIDDLETOWN Four people all of whom attended Vail Middle School are accused of vandalizing it, police said Wednesday.
Officers responding to a burglary alarm at the school around 1 a.m. Tuesday found two intruders in a stairwell: Scott Tindle, 20, who was carrying a television, and a 16-year-old boy who had tucked a videocassette recorder under his arm, a police report says.
They were charged with vandalizing and breaking into the building. Two boys, ages 14 and 15, face the same charges.
All four had spent at least four hours in the building on Saturday, emptying 12 fire extinguishers, breaking windows and stealing items, said Detective Frank Hensley.
A fifth suspect, a 16-year- old girl, has been charged with receiving $4,000 in stolen property believed taken from the school by the others, Detective Hensley said.
No estimate of the total damage and stolen items was available Wednesday.
The case remains under investigation.
