OU freshman makes dean's lists

        Freshman Jennifer Bertke was named to two consecutive dean's lists at Ohio University.

        The Mount Notre Dame High School graduate is the daughter of Barb and Tom Bertke of West Chester Township.

Honor society

               Shannon Bonta, a student at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, was inducted into the National Honor Society of Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

        The graduate of Sycamore High School is the daughter of Dave and Nancy Bonta of Blue Ash.

Scholarships won

               The Franciscan Medical Group and Associates of Western Hills awarded its annual Henry Clay Beekley Memorial Scholarships to:

        Shannon Gunther of Oak Hills High School, who will attend Miami University, Oxford and major in pre-medicine; and Jason Murray of Elder High School, who will also study pre-medicine at either Xavier University or Bellarmine College in Louisville, Ky.

New graduate

               Nicole Sturgill, the daughter of James and Rosemarie Sturgill of Northside, graduated from Thomas More College with a bachelor of arts degree in English and drama.

        She also received a certificate of merit for outstanding academic achievement.

Teacher honored

               Richard Hartmann, of Madeira, was named one of the outstanding local association treasurers of the Ohio Education Association (OEA) for the 1999-2000 school year. He is an eighth-grade teacher with the Madeira City School district.

Privates graduate

               The following privates have graduated from the Army's basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.:

        Vincent French, a graduate of Princeton High School and son of Margie and Gregory French of Springdale; Kate Hotchkiss,graduate of McAuley High School and daughter of Suzy and Dan Hotchkiss of North College Hill; Darrell Smith, graduate of Lakota High School; Kenneth Hodgkins, son of Nancy Reed and Kenneth Hodgkins, both of Loveland; and Theresa Spicer, graduate of Withrow High School and daughter of Delores and Richard Spicer of East End.
