Contractors face licensing deadline
By Mike Boyer
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The deadline is near for commercial building contractors to be grandfathered under Ohio's new licensing law.
The law takes effect Sept. 21, but contractors who want a license for commercial electrical; plumbing; and heating, air-conditioning and boiler work have until Oct. 21 to be grandfathered and avoid taking the test and paying higher fees.
A spokesman for the Ohio Construction Industry Examining Board says more than 6,800 contractors have applied for a license since the grandfathering period began in March. The board expects several thousand more will apply before the deadline. ,
Lou Heger, president of Impact Management Services Organization Inc., a Cincinnati firm helping get the word out, said many contractors aren't aware they will need to be licensed by Oct. 21 or risk being out of a job.
Impact will hold seminars for contractors on Tuesday, Sept. 25 and Oct. 16. Each session will be at 7 p.m. at the Quality Hotel & Suites in Norwood. Reservations are required. Call 731-1111.
