Digital makes move in Tristate

Following is a sampling of the numerous movie projects made in and around Cincinnati this year; (* indicates digital productions):

Drama
*• Tattered Angel, starring Lynda Carter, plus Sandra Seacat, begins shooting today. Co-stars include Cincinnati native Susan Floyd and character actor Kirk Baltz, famous for losing an ear to Michael Marsden in Reservoir Dogs. www.tatteredangel.com.

*• A Generation Lost, a coming-of-age drama, was the debut feature by Xavier graduate Matthew Freudenberg. It premiered Aug. 4 in a screening at Mr. Freudenberg's alma mater Anderson High School. Copies on tape can be ordered online at www.freudyfilms.com.

*• Get Right or Get Left, a spiritual coming-of-age written and directed by Jerry White Jr., was shot this summer in Carthage, College Hill and Forest Park, where Mr. White grew up. Now being edited for potential fall release.

*• Attempted Living, coming-of-age drama written and directed by Bright, Ind., native Drew Young and produced by his former classmate Amanda Lippert, finished shooting in July. Editing will begin in September. Meanwhile, Ms. Lippert is working as a casting director for a Dayton-based start-up production company on a short DV feature called Other People, and other projects.

Comedy

*• Grimm Reality, a short feature by University of Cincinnati graduate student Eric Chatterjee, revisits traditional fairy tales before they were sanitized for Victorian audiences. After a hiatus, shooting resumes shooting Aug. 25. www.grimmreality.com.

*• Three Barbecues features a cameo by former Maisonette chef Jean-Robert de Cavel in a movie directed by veteran production designer Rob Gray, who co-wrote the script with Jay Metz. Instead of a single cinematographer, the filmmakers enlisted a team of professionals from the Tristate commercial scene to achieve a style producer Molly Donnellon described as “Valley of the Dolls meets John Waters.”

Horror
*• Avenging Disco Vampires, a feature length horror satire from Vamps alumni Daniel Frazier, debuted Saturday at Northern Kentucky University, alma mater of Mr. Frazier and several of his collaborators. Tapes of the movie will be available to order online at www.discovampires.com.

*• Blood Sisters; Vamps 2, is the bawdy, bloody sequel to the original B+ Productions movie about stripper vampires. Shooting wrapped up in February. The movie, now in post-production, will be sold online bplusproductions.com.

Documentary
               • Bloody Breathitt, a documentary from April's Fool producers Mark Turner and Matt Hader about the longest-running documented feud in the nation, in Breathitt County, Ky. Ongoing production includes some historical re-enactments.

Shorts
@ColText: *• Homefree, a short story about homeless people from screenwriter and director Greg Newberry, who shot his previous short film Beemer Baby on 35mm. Production at the Monastery on Mount Adams with a cast and crew of local professionals took just one day. Now editing, Mr. Newberry aims to have the piece finished in time for fall festival deadlines.

        • Crocodile, a short film shot on 35mm by UC alumni Pedro Lange-Churion, now a professor of Spanish literature at the University of San Francisco, debuted at the Esquire theater in May.
