What people are reading
Charlton Heston, Actor, author, president of the National Rifle Association:
John Adams by David McCullough (Simon & Schuster; $35).
I hadn't read (Mr. McCullough's) work before, but this certainly is good.
I'm with Mr. Jefferson; I could not live without books. I read all the time, all different kinds of things for different reasons. A large part of my reading is things that may end up on stage or screen, of course.
Jerry White Jr., former Forest Park resident, writer-director of locally made independent feature Get Right or Get Left:
The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life by Bruce H. Wilkinson (Multnomah Publishers; $9.99).
It's a book that deals with one small guy, probably one of the most unrecognized people in the Bible. . . . It talks about him and his prayers. There was one prayer that he prayed, and God answered it immediately. It opened so many windows. It gives you a totally new outlook on your prayer life.
Behold a Pale Horse by William Cooper (Light Technology Publications; $25).
He just talks a lot about government affiliations and a lot of conspiracies that have gone on in the past. To have an ex-member of the intelligence service give information like that, it's very informative.
