Metro softball winner runs the table

Endurance Siding claims C-American with 7 wins in row

By Malcolm C. Knox
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Endurance Siding, playing in the C Division American of the ASA Cincinnati Metro Softball Championship, won all seven of its games on the way to winning the title, including a 16-11 victory over Fort Mitchell Sports Bar Monday night.

Endurance scored double-digit run totals in every game and gave up 10 or more runs only twice.

Endurance also beat Fort Mitchell 17-8 in the championship game of the winner's bracket on Sunday.

“We were confident coming in,” Endurance manager Pat Dooley said.

“We've had all kinds of heroes. We have a solid, veteran team.”

Endurance's Jimmy Huxel, who was out of town and did not play Monday, has seven home runs in the tournament, and Luke Smith hit two homers with seven RBI against Fort Mitchell on Sunday.

Only three of Endurance's players are under 35 years old, Dooley said.

While Endurance won out, other teams had to show their endurance. Four of the six division championships played Monday night went an extra game in the double-elimination tournament.

Trame's Shirts-N-Such beat Tim's 52 Bar twice — 15-10 in eight innings and 16-2 in five innings — for its 12th and 13th consecutive wins in the tournament.

Trame's lost in the first round, making for a long trip to the final. Tim's was undefeated in the Metro until Monday.

Trame's led 10-6 in the first game when Tim's came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning and tied the score at 10 to force the extra inning.

“They had no quit in them,” Trame's sponsor/pitcher Dan Trame said. “Then we came back and put a number on them in the eighth.”

R & D Decorating beat Multi Serv/RWI twice, 10-9 and 19-6, for the championship in the B Division after beating Whit's Entertainment 6-3 in its first game Monday.

J & D Landscaping beat the Riverdogs 5-2, then beat United Building Supply twice, 5-4 and 8-4, to force a second game in the D Division National championship.

Crosley Sports Bar/Deer Park Roofing beat Habit's Cafe 6-5 and VSC/The Roost 13-5 before losing to VSC 16-13 in the D Division American.

Western Hills Window also won out in the A Division, beating Local 392 Blue 25-11. Local 392 Blue had advanced to the championship by beating Tiny Town Pizza earlier Monday night.

Perkins Roofing/Watanabe Optical/TPS defeated Cooper Sports 26-23 in the championship of the Major Division Sunday night.

The American and National winners in the C and D divisions will play each other tonight to settle the overall titles.
