Bonds Watch: No homers
SAN FRANCISCO Barry Bonds, leading the majors with 46 homers, went 0-for-2, snapping his eight-game hitting streak, in the Giants' 4-2 win over the Phillies Friday night.
Bonds, who also walked and was hit by a pitch, is still ahead of Mark McGwire's pace to the record 70 homers in 1999.
Andres Galarraga kept the Giants undefeated since he joined them, hitting a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning for San Francisco's ninth straight victory.
I just came here to help these guys stay in the race with my bat and my glove, Galarraga said. I didn't expect anything like this.
The Giants (61-49) caught the Dodgers in the NL West standings and stayed a half-game behind Arizona, which moved back into first place with Los Angeles' loss to the Cubs.
