LEBANON — Residents paying taxes, submitting building plans or needing a host of other city departments will have to visit a temporary location starting Monday.

        The payoff, officials say, is that the city building, at 50 S. Broadway, will be more user-friendly when renovations are finished in November.

        Most Lebanon offices are moving to 320 E. Silver St., the former Warren County administration building, while the first floor of the city building gets a new layout.

        “Planning, the tax department — those kinds of customer-oriented offices will be clustered up front,” City Engineer Scott Brunka said.

        Security will be improved at the building, which also houses Lebanon Municipal Court, and the electric and heating/cooling systems will be upgraded, City Manager James Patrick said.

        “There's just a lot of things over the course of 165 years that are not up to code,” he said.

        Part of the building's second floor was renovated last year into offices for the city manager and the city attorney. The roof also was replaced.

        This year's project, expected to cost about $365,000, is out to bid. Contractors won't start work until mid- to late August, Mr. Patrick said, but offices are moving now to give Lebanon employees time to do the work themselves.

        The city hopes to complete the renovation by Nov. 29.

        All city offices can still be called at the main phone number, 932-3060.

        County commissioners have not yet signed the lease for the Silver Street space, County Administrator Bob Price said Monday, but he does not expect problems.

        Lebanon will not be charged rent, Mr. Patrick said.
