Celebrity Classic golf field set

Survivor's Elisabeth scheduled to appear Sunday

By Malcolm C. Knox
The Cincinnati Enquirer

The field of celebrities and local amateur and professional golfers has been set for this weekend's Fifth Third Bank/Fox 19 Celebrity Classic. The tournament, billed as the “Masters of Cincinnati,” will feature some of the top local pro and amateur golfers plus a range of celebrities.

Fox NFL analyst and retired Bengal Cris Collinsworth and retired Reds slugger Johnny Bench will be hosts for the July 14-15 tournament.

Possibly the most recognizable face at the Golf Center at Kings Island this weekend will be Elisabeth Filarski of CBS' Survivor TV show. Also playing are Filarski's fiance, Buffalo Bills quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, and his brother Matt, quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks.

Other celebrities will include Cincinnati mayor Charlie Luken; Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Corolla, stars of Comedy Central's The Man Show; ESPN broadcaster Tom Jackson; retired Reds pitcher Tom Browning; and retired Bengals Ken Anderson and Boomer Esiason.

Jim Herman, reigning Celebrity Classic champ and winner of last year's Metropolitan Amateur Championship, will defend his title. Other participating pros include Geoff Hensley and Bob Hauer.

Amateur players who have been invited include Tim Donovan (Xavier University), brothers Jim and Pete Ebel, and Nick and Neil Lykins, Kevin Hall (Ohio State), Ryan Lilly, and six-time Cincinnati Met winner Jim Volpenhein.

Filarski will be at the tournament Sunday only for photos and the Fox broadcast.
