N.Ky. boys track all-stars




        Athlete of the year: Brent Grover, Highlands, senior - won Class AA discus (159 feet 3 inches) and shot put (51-9). Will attend Purdue University on a football scholarship.

        Coach of the Year: Marty Mayer, Bellevue - Completed a 23-year coaching career by leading the Tigers to a third-place finish at the Class A state meet

        3,200 relay: St. Henry (Tim McLane, sophomore; Austin Kunz, sophomore; Brian Burgheim, junior; Ryan McLane, senior): They won the class A state meet with a time of 8:23.07

        100-meter hurdles: Kyle Brockman, Holy Cross, junior - He finished third in Class A state with a time of 15.67 seconds.

        100 dash: Derek Fitzer, Simon Kenton, junior: He won Class AAA regional in 10.45; was seventh at state in 11.26.

        800 relay: Newport Central Catholic (Kevin Pulsfort, junior; Stephen Federle, senior; Mike Williams, junior; Rob Schumacher, senior) - They took second in Class A state in 1:34.25

        1,600 run: Paul Markus, Bishop Brossart, junior: He finished second in the state in Class A with a time of 4:30.68.

        400 relay: Newport Central Catholic (Pulsfort, Federle, Williams, Schumacher): They took fourth in state Class A in 46.16.

        400 dash: Josh Jager, Highlands, sophomore: He took fourth in Class AA state in 52.42.

        300 hurdles: Kyle Brockman, Holy Cross, junior - He took second in state Class A state in 40.33

        800 run: Paul Markus, Bishop Brossart, junior: He won state Class A in 1:59.51.

        200 dash: James Roland, Newport, junior: He finished second in Class AA regional in 23.1 seconds.

        3,200 run: Tim Kaiser, Bishop Brossart, junior - He finished third in Class A state in 10:12.25.

        1,600 relay: Bellevue (T.J. Schmitz, junior; Matt Mayer, senior; Brandon Cain, senior; Ryan Leopold, senior): They finished second in Class A state in 3:36.33

        High jump: Dave Schuchter, Bishop Brossart, sophomore: He took third in Class A state with a leap of 6-0.

        Pole vault: Nathan Hall, Dayton, senior: He won the state Class A pole vault with a leap of 12-0; was valedictorian in his class; will attend the University of Louisville.

        Long jump: Adam Crooker, Conner, senior: He won Class AAA regional with a jump of 19-10 3/4.

        Triple jump: Tyler Elders, Covington Catholic, sophomore: He won the Class AAA region in 40-5.
