A Festival of New Music: The award-winning groups eighth blackbird and the Amernet String Quartet are among those performing at 8 p.m. today in Werner Recital Hall for Music 2001 at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Distinguished composers such as Michael Torke, Frederic Rzewski and Augusta Read Thomas will be in town to hear their music played through June 22 in daily concerts (all 8 p.m. in Werner Hall) and master classes. Media Salon returns: The summer session of the quarterly Media Salon for film, video and multimedia artists convenes at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the library of Old St. George, 42 Calhoun St., Corryville. Artists are invited to show their work in a variety of formats, and to share critiques with others at the salon. Folk Father's Day: Sunday, a dozen local singer/songwriters will honor folk-rock's founding father, Bob Dylan, at York Street Cafe (738 York St., Newport; 859-961-9675). The music starts at 8:30 p.m. and will include songs from throughout the 60-year-old singer/songwriter's career performed by Ben Clarke, Jody Stapleton, Newky Stapleton, Todd Lipscomb, Jake Speed, Greg Mahan, Messerly & Ewing, Ryan Adcock, Chris Collier, Swarthy and Ashley Peacock. SOFA mixer: Tuesday is the date of the monthly mixer of the Southern Ohio Filmmakers Association (SOFA) at the VIP Room of the 20th Century, 3021 Madison Road, Oakley. Van Cliburn winners: Talent from Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan figured prominently in the 11th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Forth Worth, Texas. Cincinnati May Festival maestro James Conlon, who conducted the finals with the Fort Worth Symphony, announced the winners on Sunday. Stanislav Ioudenitch, 29, of Uzbekistan and Olga Kern, 26, of Russia tied for gold. Russian Maxim Philippov, 29, and Italian Antonio Pompa-Baldi, 26, tied for silver. No bronze medal was awarded. Winners will receive a $20,000 cash prize, a harmonia mundi recording, tours and concert management.
