UC hires arts and sciences dean

        Karen L. Gould, dean of arts and letters at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., will be the next dean of the University of Cincinnati McMicken College of Arts and Sciences.

        Ms. Gould has been dean at ODU since 1996. She has an academic background in French and women's studies, with a particular interest in French-Canadian issues.

        She is president of the International Council for Canadian Studies. Before her term at ODU, she served at Bowling Green State University in Ohio for 11 years, serving as the associate dean of academic affairs for the graduate college and director of the women's studies program.

        Ms. Gould has taught at Virginia Tech, Bucknell University and the University of Oregon. She holds a Ph.D. in romance languages from the University of Oregon and a bachelor's from Occidental College in Los Angeles.
