Bonds fastest to hit 30 HR's

SAN FRANCISCO Barry Bonds hit his 30th home run Monday night, reaching the mark faster than anyone in major league history.
Bonds hit No. 30 in a record 57 games. Babe Ruth reached 30 homers in 63 games in 1928.
Bonds' solo shot off Bobby Jones (2-8) in the fourth inning sailed over the fence in center field as the crowd chanted Barry! Barry! It helped the Giants beat San Diego 3-1 for the Padres' sixth straight loss.
Barry's a professional hitter and a good one, Jones said. I got a changeup up, and he did what good hitters are supposed to do.
Bonds did not comment after the game.
Bonds has 524th career homers for 11th on the career list. He needs 10 to match Jimmie Foxx for 10th.
The Giants' left fielder was picked as the NL Player of the Month on Monday after hitting a major league record 17 home runs in May. Bonds broke the record of 16 shared by Mark McGwire (1998) and Mickey Mantle (1956).
Bonds, who holds the career mark for most home runs hit by a left-hander in the National League, has homered in 11 of his last 16 games.
