Chain of children moves library collection

THORNVILLE, Ohio This bookmobile had no engine or wheels just kidpower.
Schoolchildren forming a chain three blocks long transferred 800 books from this village's old library to its new one, bucket brigade-style.
In scarcely more than an hour Tuesday, the book brigade of 310 pupils from Thornville Elementary School relocated the entire children's collection.

Adult books will be moved separately in boxes to the new library, which opens June 4.
Parents and teachers, along with volunteer firefighters, police officers and Lions Club members, joined the book-passing chain.
The adults said they hope the feeling will stick with the children.
They'll remember this forever, said library board member Larry Roberts, who dreamed up the book brigade. That's one of the reasons we wanted to do it. This will get them used to coming to the new library.
The children, in kindergarten through fifth grade, received frozen treats for their effort.
Thornville is about 32 miles southeast of Columbus.
