Question: Construction was recently completed on the U.S. 50 bridge over the Little Miami River in Milford. As part of the project, a new left-turn-only lane was added on eastbound U.S. 50 at Ohio 126, just west of the bridge. The left-turn-only lane has its own signal to allow for turns onto Ohio 126 only when traffic on westbound U.S. 50 has a red light. Often there is westbound traffic on U.S. 50 when the westbound light is green although a left turn could safely be made onto Ohio 126. Can the signal be changed to allow for a left turn with caution while the light for westbound U.S. 50 is green? - Tim Werdmann, Terrace Park

        Answer: Milford City Engineer Bud White of Santoro Engineering in Batavia said workers contracted by the Ohio Department of Transportation are putting finishing touches on the bridge project after which the bridge and signalization will become Milford's responsibility to maintain. Because it is a just-completed project, time must be given to monitor the efficiency of the signal. Mr. White said that after Milford takes control of the signal, a review will be conducted of signal timing and efficiency.

        Q: Why is a left turn prohibited onto Blue Rock from northbound Hamilton Avenue in Northside? It forces traffic to go a block farther north to turn left onto Palm. - Emily Adams, Mount Airy

        A: Cincinnati Traffic Engineer Steve Bailey said studies conducted many times over several years show that even one left turning car from Hamilton to Blue Rock reduces the traffic flow on Hamilton by half, causing serious congestion at Knowlton's Corner just south of the intersection. Part of this situation is caused by heavy southbound traffic on Hamilton with limited gaps between vehicles to allow left turns. Because there are several alternate streets north of Blue Rock where traffic eases and left turns are allowed, it benefits overall traffic flow to prohibit left turns onto Blue Rock.
