Special education teacher certified

        Deer Park Community School teacher Laura Stevens has been certified as a Professionally Recognized Special Educator.

        The certificate is a recognition by the Council for Exceptional Children that she has met its professional education and experience requirements and is committed to practice within the Code of Ethics and Standards for Professional Practice of the special education profession.

Board appointee

               Allen Murphey, a language arts teacher at Pleasant Run Middle School, was appointed to a three-year term on theOhio Writing Project advisory board at Miami University in Oxford. The board determines the direction and scope of programs for the year, including in-services, summer work shops, and writing programs.

Excellence award

               Melissa Nelson, an SBH (severe behavioral handicapped) teacher at White Oak Middle School, was chosen to receive an Excellence Award presented by Beech Acres and its “Great Grownups for Kids” program.

        Ms. Nelson is a resident of Oxford.

               The following have been elected PTA Educators of the Year for 2001 in the Northwest School District:

        Alissa Long of Harrison, a special education teacher at Bevis Elementary; Randie Parks of Liberty Township, a music teacher at Colerain Elementary; Vicki Priessman of Green Township, a first grade teacher at Houston Elementary; Linda Allendorf of Colerain Township, a fourth grade teacher at Monfort Heights Elementary; Alli son Hillman of Hamilton, a kindergarten teacher at Struble Elementary; Margaret Smith of Mason, a physical education teacher at Weigel Elementary; Kathy Barger of Westwood, an art teacher and assistant principal at Welch Elementary; Donna Imhulse of Oxford, a language arts and Access teacher at Colerain Middle School; Tiffany Hosley of Pleasant Run, a language arts teacher at Pleasant Run Middle; Nancy Martin of Liberty Township, a science and math teacher at White Oak Middle; Maureen Heintz of West Chester Township, an assistant principal at Colerain High School; and Larry Borisch of Peach Grove, a technology education teacher at Northwest High School.
