Two critically hurt in robbery, shootings
A robbery attempt in Bond Hill early Friday ended in the shooting and critical wounding of two men.
The two men were approached near 1307 Carolina Ave. by two men who attempted to rob them, fired and fled, Cincinnati police said.
Wounded were Johnnie Baker, 37, of the 1300 block of Carolina Ave., who was in critical condition late Friday at University Hospital, and Mike Jones, 27, of 3900 Silvan Ave., also in critical condition.
Police have no suspects and continue to investigate.
The shooting victims and their assailants are black, police said.
The shooting came hours after Fraternal Order of Police President Keith Fangman asked Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken to appoint a commission to study violent crime in predominantly black neighborhoods specifically black-on-black crime.
There were three other shootings during two days this week in Over-the-Rhine and adjacent Mount Auburn, all involving black suspects and black victims. Five people were injured in the three shootings.
