Madeira edges Reading on Ramirez's single

        Rick Ramirez's infield single with two outs in the top of the seventh inning drove in Brad Darter and gave Madeira's baseball team an 11-10 victory over Reading Friday night at Reading.

        Ramirez's hit came after Dennis Gilligan doubled to drive in Bryan Steur to tie the game.

        CCD 3, CHCA 0 — Joel Ellison drove in all three Indians runs and Roman Duty and Brett Smith combined for the shutout to help keep CCD undefeated in Miami Valley Conference play.

        Mason 7, Northwest 6 — Senior catcher Brandon Evans drove in the tying and winning runs with a double.

        Harrison 6, Winton Woods 0 — Harrison clinched its first Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division title. It's the Wildcats' second title in the last three years, the last coming in 1999 in the Queen City Conference East division.

        Sophomore Alan Brech pitched a complete game, striking out eight.


               McAuley 10, Ursuline 6 — With the victory and Mercy's win over Mount Notre Dame, McAuley clinched the Girls Greater Catholic League title.

        McAuley scored nine runs in the fourth inning, and Stephanie White had a two-run, pinch-hit double to start the scoring in the fourth.

        Reading 10, Madeira 9 — Meredith Gertz singled home Beth Nolte in the bottom of the eighth with the game winner.

        In the bottom of the seventh inning, Gertz had an RBI double and scored on a single by Vanessa Wolke to tie the game at 9 and send it to extra innings.

        Amelia 8, Glen Este 1 — Amelia clinched the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division championship, its second league championship in three years. Amber Carpenter went the distance for the win, improving to 12-2.

        Anderson 2, Turpin 1 — Carrie Makin drove in Jenny Lippert with a fielders choice in the first inning for the eventual game winner. Lippert pitched a complete game for her sixth victory in two weeks.
