Harvick to run at Ky. Speedway
By Tom Groeschen
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Kevin Harvick will drive in Kentucky Speedway's NASCAR Busch race June 16, speedway general manager Mark Cassis said Thursday.
Harvick, a rising star in NASCAR, replaced the late Dale Earnhardt on the Winston Cup circuit. Harvick also drives a Busch car owned by Richard Childress, who oversaw Earnhardt's Winston Cup team.
Harvick also will attempt to drive in the Winston Cup race at Pocono, Pa., the day after the Kentucky's Outback Steakhouse 300 Busch race.
Harvick will practice at Kentucky on Thursday, June 14, then fly to Pocono for Winston qualifying Friday. An unnamed driver will qualify his Busch car Friday at Kentucky, and then Harvick will return to drive the car Saturday night at Kentucky. Under NASCAR rules he will have to start at the back of the field, from where he has won twice.
We're excited he's coming, Cassis said. Maybe this might lure a couple of other Cup guys to our Busch race.
Harvick stands second in the Busch season points race and 11th in Winston Cup.
Kerry Earnhardt, one of Earnhardt's sons, also will drive in the Kentucky Busch race.
