Rodger Bingham, the Crittenden, Ky., teacher who gained a national following in 12 weeks of prime-time television appearances, got dumped in Thursday's episode of Survivor: The Australian Outback and lost his chance at the $1 million dollar prize.
According to results of online polls, Mr. Bingham, 53, had become one of the two most popular players among viewers of the highly rated show. The original field of 16 players had been narrowed to five when Mr. Bingham was eliminated, getting three of the votes cast.
The only other vote-getter was Keith Famie, 40, of West Bloomfield, Mich.

In a touching remark earlier in the episode - the 12th in the series - Mr. Bingham suggested that other players eliminate him instead of Elisabeth Filarski, 23, of Boston.
She's a fine young lady, he said. Character-wise, moral-wise. She's tops in my book.
After the vote at the end of the show, he said, I wish them all the best of luck - especially Elisabeth. I hope she goes all the way.
Colby Donaldson, 26, of Dallas won the immunity challenge for the third week in a row. The contest this time focused on recall abilities and a race to unlock prisoner shackles.
The player lineup, true to its fairly steady 50-50 gender breakdown, now stands at two men and two women; three members of the former Ogakore Tribe, one (Ms. Filarski) from Kucha.
The other contestant is Tina Wesson, 40, from Knoxville, Tenn.
There were six days to go in the competition. Mr. Bingham said: I could have done without food for six days.
