Churches may have to cancel Saturday services
If the curfew continues Saturday, Easter preparations at churches throughout the city will be disrupted or cancelled tonight.
About 1,600 people across the Archdiocese, including many in the city of Cincinnati, planned to be baptized or received into the Catholic Church during Easter Vigil services tonight. Church law requires the Easter Vigil begin after sundown.
A letter to parishes from the Archdiocese says the vigil services cannot begin before 9 p.m. and will have to be cancelled if the curfew extends through the weekend. The baptisms, receptions into full communion, confirmations and first Eucharists scheduled for the vigil service will have to be celebrated Easter Sunday or during the following week.
It's certainly going to bring a lot of disruption to what faithful Catholics are expecting, says Dan Andriacco, spokesman for the Archdiocese. But Easter is still Easter and nothing can disrupt that.
