Injured officer returns to job
By Earnest Winston
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Just hours after he was shot, Cincinnati Police Spc. Andrew Nogueira returned to work Thursday.
The 12-year veteran and member of the tactical planning unit was shot at about 11 p.m. Wednesday. The bullet deflected off the buckle on his belt, ricocheting into his bullet-proof vest. He was treated at University Hospital and released.
He's doing very well. He's in good spirits, Sgt. Chris Ruehmer said.
Spc. Nogueira, 37, a University of Cincinnati graduate, became a recruit in 1989.
Until 1995, he worked in both Districts 1 and 3. He was promoted to specialist in District 3 in 1995. A year later he moved to the Criminal Investigation Section's personal crimes unit. In 2000, he transferred to the tactical planning unit.
He worked as a high school English teacher in Cincinnati Public Schools in 1988-89 and a teacher at Greenhills High School and Northwest Schools in 1988.
Police have not arrested anyone in the incident.
