St. X beats Elder on Heekin homer

Mike Heekin hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, rallying St. Xavier to a 7-4 victory over previously undefeated Elder in baseball Monday at Hille Field.
Trailing 4-3 entering the sixth, Heekin's blast triggered a three-run rally and catapulted coach Bill Slinger's undefeated Bombers into sole possession of first place in the GCL South.
La Salle 4, Moeller 2 Reggie Watson's two-run double in the fourth inning triggered a four-run outburst for the Lancers. Pitcher Adam Curley held Moeller hitless through six innings to pick up the victory over the No.1-ranked Crusaders.
Aiken 6, Western Hills 5 Winning league championships has been tough for the Aiken baseball team during the past 23 years.
But, the Falcons took a major step toward the Queen City Conference championship with the victory over the Mustangs.
We haven't won a league baseball championship since 1978, and it's also been a long time since Aiken beat Western Hills, second-year coach Al Shumar said. When the game was over, the kids celebrated around home plate.
After drawing a walk in the bottom of the fifth inning, Kenneth Fairbanks advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a passed ball. He scored the winning run on Clinton Ferguson's single.
Fairfield 3, Lakota West 2 Jeff Rickert scored on a single by Jason Brown in the sixth inning, enabling the Indians to retain a share of first place in the Greater Miami Conference.
