Holy Cross girls run over Conner

Junior center Molly Hall and junior forward Rachele Vogelpohl each scored 11 points Wednesday night to lead Holy Cross to a 55-43 victory over Conner in the first round of the Ninth Region tournament at Conner.
Holy Cross, ranked No.9 in The Enquirer's Northern Kentucky coaches poll, opened the game with a 12-0 run behind an attacking defense that forced five turnovers.
Conner battled back as Danielle Dooley and Laura VonHandorf each made two field goals to cut Holy Cross' lead to 14-11 after the first quarter.
Dooley, Amanda Turner and Missy Suter each made field goals at the start of the second to cut the Indians' lead to 18-17.
But junior Rosie Arlinghaus scored eight points during a 12-5 Holy Cross run at the end of the first half, including a putback at the buzzer.
Rosie has played on and off for us all year, Holy Cross coach Rob Kues said. She really stepped up her play tonight, especially on defense in the second half.
Holy Cross sealed the win in the fourth quarter by making 12 free throws.
Holy Cross got 10 rebounds apiece from Hall and guard Ashlie Noll and totaled 25 in the second half.
Holy Cross will play Highlands in the semifinals at 8p.m. Monday at Conner.
