Elder, Colerain advance to showdown

        Elder, ranked fourth in the Enquirer's Division I coaches poll, cruised past Sycamore 58-27 Tuesday in a Division I sectional semifinal at Shoemaker Center.

        Elder forced six turnovers on Sycamore's first 10 possessions to take a 9-0 lead to start the game.

        Mike Mahon hit two 3-pointers and Jake Bazeley scored six points to lead the Panthers to a 24-7 lead after one quarter.

        Mahon finished with 12 points, all on 3-pointers, to lead all scorers.

        Elder will meet Colerain for the sectional title March 5.

        • Colerain 61, Mount Healthy 50, Division I at Shoemaker Center — Colerain went on a 5-0 run with 4:35 remaining to break a 45-45 tie.

        The Cardinals were sparked by Mike Ferris, who scored eight of his 24 points in the fourth quarter.

        Colerain senior center Doug Monaghan led all scorers with with 25 points. He also had 10 rebounds.

        • Cincinnati Country Day 58, Summit Country Day 38, Division IV at Loveland — The second-seeded Indians forced 28 Silver Knight turnovers while advancing to the sectional finals.

        Senior guard Tyler Wright scored eight of his game-high 11 points in the first half for CCD. Senior forward Austin Mitchell added 10 for the Indians.

        SCD senior forward Topher Sheldon shared game-high scoring honors with 11 points.

        CCD, the No.5 team in the Enquirer's Divisions II-IV coaches poll, beat the Silver Knights for the third time this season. The Indians will face Georgetown at 6:30p.m. Friday.

        Georgetown will meet second-seeded Cincinnati Country Day Friday.

        • Goshen 61, Taylor 46, Division II at Anderson — Senior guard Kevin Smith scored nine of his 15 points in the first quarter to help the Warriors take command.

        Senior forward Roger Drake scored 20 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to help Goshen hold off the Yellowjackets. Junior forward Nate Blevins and junior guard Chris Helton each added 10 points for the Warriors.

        Senior center Alex Thinnes led Taylor with 19 points.

        Goshen meets top-seeded Roger Bacon for the sectional championship at 8 p.m. Saturday.

        Junior Tony Fulks paced the Cavaliers with 12 points, and Keith Jackson added 11. Kevin McBreen led Ross with 10.

        Purcell will face McNicholas at 4:30p.m. Saturday at Anderson.
