Cincinnati boys basketball games

No. 1 Winton Woods heats up, routs Princeton

Winton Woods sharpshooter DeForrest Riley had an explanation for the Warriors' slow start against Princeton in Monday's sectional game at Miami's Millett Hall.

“We were simply too pumped up in the first half,” Riley said. “And we needed to get a little tired to play better.”

While Riley's analysis might've described the early play of the other Warriors, it didn't shed any light on his own.

Riley scored 27 points as top-seeded Winton Woods beat Princeton 77-53.

“We were on a 10-day layoff,” Winton Woods coach David Lumpkin said. “Tonight when the other guys weren't on, DeForrest stepped it up. That's nothing new.”

Winton Woods (21-0) will play Western Hills at 7 p.m. Friday at Millett Hall for the sectional title.
