Cincinnati boys basketball games


Mount Healthy beats Taft in OT

The Cincinnati Enquirer

        Deon Short made two free throws with 9.2 seconds to play to give Mount Healthy a 63-60 overtime win over Queen City Conference rival Taft in the Division I sectional at Mason.

        Taft's last-second 3-point shot was blocked by Short. Short and Jontay Love combined to erase a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Short finished with 13 points.

        Mark Lofton led the Owls with 15 points.

        Raymond Huff led Taft with 21 points. Mount Healthy plays Colerain at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at UC's Shoemaker Center.

        TAFT (60) — Turner 4 0 9, Williams 6 3 15, Lynch 2 0 4, Huff 8 5 21, Daniels 0 1 1, Price 4 0 10. Totals: 24 9 60.

        • Lakota West 56, Walnut Hills 46, Division I at Mason — Senior guard Kyle Raulin scored 16 points and Kevin Buhrlage added 12 to lead Lakota West to the win.

        Walnut Hills senior guard Lawrence Wilson scored made 11 of his career-high 28 points in the fourth quarter.

        Purcell Marian, which had a 27-11 halftime lead, forced 17 turnovers. Tony Fulks added 10 points for Purcell Marian.

        Purcell Marian plays Ross at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Anderson.

        Taylor's Tim Kroeger led all scorers with 20 points; while Justin Holthaus paced CNE with 15 points.

        Taylor plays Goshen at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Anderson.

        Junior forward Nate Blevins also chipped in the 10 points for Goshen.

        Senior Danny Williams paced Western Brown with 10 points.

        Goshen next meets Taylor at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Anderson.

        Sophomore center Chris Norwell led all scorers with 32 points.

        Hughes moves on to play Hamilton at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

        • Lakota East 56, Harrison 52, Division I at Lakota West — Senior Jonathan Woods hit four free throws in the last 15.6 seconds for the Thunderhawks.

        Woods also hit two free throws with 1:55 left to give Lakota East a 52-51 lead that lasted until Harrison sophomore Alan Brech hit the front end of a bonus situation with 1:34 remaining.

        Woods finished with a team-high 23 points. Harrison junior Paul Volkerding scored a game-high 31 points.

        The Thunderhawks will meet fourth-seeded Western Hills 8:30 p.m. Monday at Miami University's Millett Hall.
