Indian Hill diver repeats state title

By Dick Zunt
Enquirer contributor

CANTON — Indian Hill sophomore Emily Hunter accomplished both of her goals Thursday at the Ohio High School Swimming and Diving Championships: repeating as the girls Division II diving champion and improving on her score from last year.

Hunter easily defended her state title, finishing with a total of 410.30 points at Canton McKinley's C.T. Branin Natatorium. Nikki Weaver of Bellbrook was second in 361.80.

“I was nervous at the beginning,” Hunter said. “After I got through the first round, I was OK.”

Sophomore Sarah Wyant from Ross took third, with a score of 357.10. Senior Anna Battoclette of Clark Montessori finished 14th at 301.10.

In girls Division I, senior Chrissy Lachmann of McAuley finished third with a score of 393.10.

“I wasn't worried about getting my dive perfect tonight,” she said. “Since this is my last year here, I wanted to enjoy myself and visit the other divers.”

McAuley's Marissa Lampe finished 11th with 339.20 points and Katie Meister finished 13th at 339.90. Erin Parker of Turpin finished 15th, Gina Sylvester of Sycamore was 16th, and Laurie Brenner of Colerain was 18th.

In boys Division I competition, Peter Donohue of Turpin was unable to defend his title, finishing third with a score of 393.80. He finished behind Andy Seibenick of Toledo St. Francis (465.85) and John Collier of Summit Country Day (431.90).

In the fourth round, Donohue had a failed dive on a full-twisting 2 1/2, falling to 18th.

“That failed dive seemed to affect Peter psychologically on the next dive,” Turpin coach Jerry Williams said.

        St. Xavier's Trevor Packer finished 10th (360.75) and LaSalle's Nicholas McMahon was 12th (347.85).

Anderson's Dale Williams was 18th in 240.35, and Edgewood's Joe Hall was 24th in 120.95.
