OXFORD It's 8:30 on a cold Saturday morning, and by rights Miami student George Tony Pizza and his friends should be sleeping in.
Instead, they're setting up the computer lab in Miami's Kreger Hall so a class full of Oxford senior citizens can explore the wonders of the Internet. Offering classes in basic computer and Internet skills was Mr. Pizza's idea.

Doug Troy, chair of Miami's computer science and systems analysis department, agreed to open the lab on Saturdays. Mr. Pizza recruited fellow sophomores George Poulos, Marc Caporini, Scott Patterson and Shannon Barazda as instructors.
Response has been enthusiastic.
Not only are they learning, but they are enjoying the students, Sharon Peterson, director of Oxford Senior Services, said of the 60-, 70- and 80-somethings who have filled the classes since sessions began in November. Some of them had never touched a computer before, and they were afraid they would do something wrong, but Tony brought in a rubber mallet and hit the computers to show them they wouldn't break.
Many of Mr. Pizza's alumni are eager to learn more.
There has been so much interest ... that I'm looking into grants to buy computers for the senior center, Ms. Peterson said.
