FORT WRIGHT U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., will raise money for the Kenton County Republican Party and his own re-election campaign during a visit to Northern Kentucky on Friday.
Mr. McConnell also will visit three businesses and address students at Gallatin County High School in Warsaw.
Kenton County GOP leaders said they are thrilled that Mr. McConnell, a Republican from Louisville, plans to attend a Friday evening fund-raiser for the party's Lincoln 100 Club.
The Lincoln 100 is a group that raises money for the county GOP, which in turn uses the funds to campaign for Republican candidates. Admission to the club is $100.
Nearly depleted after the November election, the club's account stands at less than $400, Mr. Shumate said.
With no elections this year, it's time to do some fund raising for the party, and this event Friday is going to help us do that, said Kenton County Republican Party Chairman Greg Shumate.
The fund-raiser will be from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Fort Mitchell Country Club, at the end of Fort Mitchell Avenue. For more information, call Mr. Shumate at 655-6884.
After the Lincoln 100 event, Mr. McConnell will attend a fund-raiser for his re-election campaign at the Fort Mitchell home of longtime supporters John and Jan Steinman.
The contribution for the event is $500 a person. Information and reservations are available by calling Scott Douglas, Mr. McCon nell's chief fund-raiser, at (202) 628-4636,
This week, Lois Combs Weinberg, a Democrat from Eastern Kentucky who is the daughter of former Kentucky Gov. Bert Combs, announced she will challenge Mr. McConnell in the 2002 Senate race.
Mr. McConnell will seek a fourth term next year.
Also on Friday, Mr. McConnell will visit Gallatin Steel near Warsaw; Comair in Erlanger, where he will tour the airline's recently opened headquarters; and Toyota's North American headquarters, also in Erlanger.
